Mies van der Rohe Award 2022 – European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture
The award is named after the German-American architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe who is regarded as one of the pioneers of modernist architecture.
The prize recognises excellence in European architecture for conceptual, social, cultural, technical and constructive objectives. Grafton Architects were recognised for imagining “a place where reading, dance, research, performance, lectures and exhibitions co-exist, under one roof and the door is open to everyone… offering an imaginative approach to education as a process of engagement and discovery.” Selected as the winner from a short list of 40 architecturally excellent projects around Europe.
Space at Kingston is delighted to welcome guests to this award winning space and to have it recognised exactly for its intended purpose. One of the most highly desired conference spaces in Kingston.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize – UK’s Best New Building 2021
The 25 th RIBA prize, the UK’s most prestigious architecture award, was given to Townhouse for “expertly capturing the spirit of learning and the value of community cohesion.”
The RIBA has been celebrating outstanding architecture for over 180 years and in 2021, Townhouse beat 531 long listed projects from 41 European countries.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London Regional Awards - Client of the Year 2021
This accolade is one of six special awards issued by RIBA London which specifically recognise projects for ‘excellence in sustainability, exemplary approach to conversation, inspirational project architect or design quality’.

Civic Trust Awards 2021
The Civic Trust Awards celebrate exceptional architecture and planning, recognising buildings that have made a positive contribution to their communities.
Townhouse was described by the award committee as ‘an important new building for Kingston University and Kingston itself and a great civic contribution in the truest sense’. It was ‘completely accessible to Kingston residents and established a new landmark in Kingston and a community facility where the local community gets to participate in University-led events’.
